Adams Central needed every second and every placement point to beat out the Leo Lions for the team title in the girls’ race at the Bellmont Cross Country Invite Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortened to a two-mile (3200 M) event due to the heat, the Jets overcame a 1-2 finish by the Lions to win the title. Last year’s event was completely canceled due to a similar heat wave. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jet’s depth was key in winning the trophy. AC’s fourth- and fifth-place runners finished 18th and 19th (and sixth-best was 20th), allowing them to edge Leo, whose fifth runner was back in 23rd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addison Gilbert was the top finisher for the Jets in the different format, beating out Madison Gerber and and Madison Hamilton, who were 6th and 7th, respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont took fourth place among the six full teams. Freshman Sydney Angel continues to lead the Braves and she finished with a time of 14:28.2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ava Smith had a strong run for the Heritage Patriots, finishing in 10th as an individual. The team is still without a fifth runner to compete as a team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
