A round of 203 for the young Bellmont Braves on their own back nine has head coach Mike Macke excited about the team’s chances at the Bi-County tournament Saturday after the team faced a tough and experienced Leo team Thursday night at Cross Creek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No. 1 Ella Hockemeyer overcame a poor first hole to play the other eight holes at +5 and turn in her best back nine of the year by five strokes with a 45. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medalist Alexa Bremer of Leo was the only player on the night with a better score (41) than Hockemeyer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ella played around the waters of the 12th hole and carded a birdie on the Par 5 to kick-start her round. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The girls continue to improve,” said Macke. “Ella played a great round after a rough first hole. She is starting to get more consistent and giving us the type of first score we need.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as impressive as Hockemeyer’s round was the fact that the other three scoring girls posted season bests on the back nine, as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan Huss trimmed seven strokes from her previous mark to shoot 50. She played a consistent round that included a par and just one hole at worse than double-bogey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Classmate Kinley Martin shot the same score as Huss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Kinley has struggled lately,” noted Macke, “but got it going much better tonight. She still had a few rough holes but her three pars and two bogies were her best five holes of the season.”

Lyla Post overcame one bad hole to still post her best weeknight round of the season with a 58. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
