{"id":18290,"date":"2024-08-09T14:34:44","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T18:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=18290"},"modified":"2024-08-09T14:34:45","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T18:34:45","slug":"decatur-street-project-eyes-saturday-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/09\/decatur-street-project-eyes-saturday-start\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur street project eyes Saturday start"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brooks Construction Co., slowed by recent weather conditions, is expected to start the latest Decatur street repaving project on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its Tuesday meeting that the Fort Wayne firm will get the project underway by upgrading handicap ramps around the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"442\" height=\"111\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/unnamed-25.jpg?resize=442%2C111&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/unnamed-25.jpg?w=442&amp;ssl=1 442w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/unnamed-25.jpg?resize=300%2C75&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 442px) 100vw, 442px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Weather has been a problem of late, Gilbert said, so Brooks is going to work Saturday to try to get back on schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the ramp work is completed, likely a little beyond the middle of August, the next step will be milling (removing the top layer) the streets to be repaved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barring further weather delays, the asphalt will start going down around the first of September \u201cwhen we should see a lot of disruption around town,\u201d Gilbert noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A state Community Crossings grant is funding the major portion of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant amounts to $810,508.10.
