Thursday night is one a considerable amount of Decatur-area people look forward to each year, with a combination of classic cars and ’50s and ’60s rock ‘n’ roll rolled together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s 23rd annual Motor Sports Festival will bring show cars, antique cars, street rods and more \u2013 maybe even a few motorcycles \u2013 to the downtown area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also included in the night’s festivities will be a performance by the ever-popular Bulldogs, a music staple in this area for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The car show is scheduled for 4-9 p.m., with registration ($12) from 4-6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chamber says the first 150 entries will receive dash plaques. Over 40 plaques will be awarded, including the mayor’s choice, the committee’s choice, club participation, and best paint and best engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second St. will close from Monroe to Jefferson around 3 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will be held rain or shine, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs will move onto the Madison St. Plaza stage at 7 and perform for two hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band \u2013 which plays music from Elvis, Bill Haley, the Beatles, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Buddy Holly and many others \u2013 always draws a large crowd to the plaza in its annual performance here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various foodstuffs will be available, along with adult beverages offered for sale by the Mirage’s Oasis Pub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
