The Decatur Chamber’s 2024 Summer Concert Series shifts gears once again this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After four weeks of rockin’ tribute bands followed by last week’s first-ever square dancing, this Thursday’s concert will feature the Silver Stallions, an homage to the outlaws of country featuring tributes to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash \u2013 the legendary Highwaymen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chamber officials have also announced that the following week’s August 1 concert will bring Thunderstruck, an AC\/DC tribute band, back to the Madison St. Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Highwaymen will start at 7 p.m. and wind up at 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As usual, no admission will be charged. A variety of food will be available, as will the Mirage’s Oasis Pub offering adult beverages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont’s Show Choir Summer Campers will take the stage around 6:45 to perform as the opening act for Silver Stallion. This year’s camp consists of 60 kids in grades K-8th<\/sup>, assisted by 20 high school students helping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Silver Stallions say they present an authentic tribute right down to the voices, mannerisms and clothing of the legendary Highwaymen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the Highwaymen\u2019s great songs are included: \u2018Silver Stallion\u2019, \u2018Live Forever\u2019, \u2018The Highwayman\u2019 and many more, along with individual classics like \u2018Luckenbach Texas\u2019, \u2018On the Road Again\u2019, \u2018Folsom Prison Blues\u2019, \u2018Ring of Fire\u2019 and \u2018Help me Make it Through the Night\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formed in 1985, the original group did not have an official name when they released their first two albums on Columbia Records. The first album, Highwayman, was credited to “Nelson, Jennings, Cash, Kristofferson.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The single “Highwayman”, a Jimmy Webb composition, became a No. 1 country hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band continued to tour off and on into the late 1990s, before Jennings and Cash both started to decline in health, which prevented them from maintaining a full touring schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four continued to perform as solo artists. Jennings died in 2002 and Cash in 2003.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
