The Adams County Community Foundation\u00a0awarded 100+ scholarships this week to non-traditional and on-track students at their recent scholarship distribution event.\u00a0 With 110 candidates applying during the June scholarship cycle, the scholarship committee chairperson, Sylvia Scheumann, reported this is one of the largest groups of scholarship review sessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am speaking for the ACCF scholarship committee when I say we were very impressed with this group of students.\u00a0Over $200,000 was awarded to these students over a three-day distribution period,” said Scheumann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deb Cook, ACCF scholarship Administrator, reported that the non-traditional student is one that has been out of high school five or more years while the on-track student is one that has been out of high school for a range of one to five years. Eligible candidates are Adams County residents and are currently in college or plan to attend college this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were several individual awards presented at the ACCF Scholarship award event, but several students earned the John and Kay Boch Scholarships.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boch Scholarship Fund – John, Decatur retired Decatur postmaster, and Kay, owner of the popular \u2018Kiddie Shop\u2019 on Second Street across from the Decatur Daily Democrat offices, had been leaders in the philanthropic giving in Adams County.\u00a0 Establishing a supporting organization in the Adams County Community Foundation in 1996, this fund provided stability to the Foundation.\u00a0 Growing the fund to over $5,000,000, nephew Robert Boch oversaw the investment and the distribution of the grants and scholarships. Since 1998, hundreds of students have benefited from the generosity of this Adams County couple.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
