The City of Decatur will be moving into the age of traffic roundabouts \u2013 likely next year \u2013 and it also may be soon entering the age of digital billboards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delbert Riehn, representing Robinson Outdoor, pitched the idea of a digital billboard on S. 13th<\/sup> St. to city council at its Tuesday meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI’m here to explain what we have to offer,\u201d Riehn said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No decision was made but council seemed favorable to the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Robindon Outdoor will sell commercial space on the billboard, a key feature will be the capability and willingness to add warnings and promote the community, according to Riehn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Robinson Outdoor boards in other communities will quickly put up a weather warning, missing persons alerts, a mandatory boil order, wanted fugitives, congratulatory messages, all manner of safety messages, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are really involved in the communities in which we have billboards,\u201d Riehn said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company would like to put a digital board at 1301 Patterson St. (where Patterson leads into and exits Industrial Park) in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 12 x 24 board would be two-sided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only one board is being sought. \u201cNo, we do not want to put a whole bunch in,\u201d Riehn replied to a question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If given the go-ahead, \u201cWe can hopefully be in here in a few months,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
