{"id":17653,"date":"2024-07-12T18:22:27","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T22:22:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=17653"},"modified":"2024-07-12T18:22:28","modified_gmt":"2024-07-12T22:22:28","slug":"plaza-rocks-loud-with-hair-bands-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/12\/plaza-rocks-loud-with-hair-bands-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Plaza rocks loud with &#8216;hair bands&#8217; music"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hair flew, the guitars screamed, the leather jackets bounced and the Madison St. Plaza in Decatur rocked Thursday night, courtesy of a rousing performance by Hairbangers Ball, a band out of Chicago bringing back the \u201chair bands\u201d music of the 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The six bandmates \u2013 two women, four men \u2013 brought forth the hits of numerous bands from the era of long hair and hard rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"588\" height=\"288\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/941F7D42029849689C6E0495A4C17CD6.jpg?resize=588%2C288&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/941F7D42029849689C6E0495A4C17CD6.jpg?w=588&amp;ssl=1 588w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/941F7D42029849689C6E0495A4C17CD6.jpg?resize=300%2C147&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a threat of rain early on, but the threat didn&#8217;t bring any rain \u2013 unlike the previous week \u2013 and once again the plaza was bulging with fans out for a night of entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They weren&#8217;t disappointed. The Hairbangers rocked for nearly two and a half hours (only one short break) and brought an amazing diversity of major hits to the Chamber of Commerce event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guns &amp; Roses? Sure. Motley Crue. Sure again. Whitesnake, of course, Ratt? Yep. Poison? Yep again. And there was more, lots more. Van Halen, AC\/DC, KISS, Twisted Sister, the Scorpions, Def Leppard \u2013 they were all heard from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/4A8620D6BBDD4DAAA36254ED862B68B2.jpg?resize=640%2C275&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17655\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/4A8620D6BBDD4DAAA36254ED862B68B2.jpg?w=671&amp;ssl=1 671w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/4A8620D6BBDD4DAAA36254ED862B68B2.jpg?resize=300%2C129&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So were two bands from earlier this season on the plaza, Journey and Bon Jovi. And the women weren&#8217;t left out, with the music of Joan Jett and Pat Benatar booming loudly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the evening continued, people flocked to the front of the stage to dance and sing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the concert-goers got a little extra. The night&#8217;s sponsor, the Oasis Pub (the Mirage), sweetened the band&#8217;s pot at 9 p.m., which brought another half hour of rockin&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hairbangers, who date to 2001, had been here once before, in 2022, thanks to a chance meeting.
