{"id":17641,"date":"2024-07-12T17:51:59","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T21:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=17641"},"modified":"2024-07-12T17:52:00","modified_gmt":"2024-07-12T21:52:00","slug":"ordinance-updates-before-going-modern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/12\/ordinance-updates-before-going-modern\/","title":{"rendered":"Ordinance updates before going \u201cmodern\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of Decatur is looking to move into a more modern age with an updating of numerous ordinances relating to police work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Displaying a couple of long-used ticket and parking ticket pads used by officers, Police Chief Kevin Gerber told city council at its latest meeting that the current system is bulky, slow and, in some instances, \u201cwe don&#8217;t have a good way of enforcing them (laws),\u201d Gerber said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"421\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/4DB613232FBD49B49FE2D74357997E06.jpg?resize=421%2C384&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/4DB613232FBD49B49FE2D74357997E06.jpg?w=421&amp;ssl=1 421w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/4DB613232FBD49B49FE2D74357997E06.jpg?resize=300%2C274&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Decatur Police Chief Kevin Gerber<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, \u201cThe state has a better and faster way; it&#8217;s clean and its efficient.\u201d Putting city ordinances into that E-Ticket System would provide \u201ca much better way of doing things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chief would like to update a number of ordinances. As an example, he said, \u201cIf we&#8217;re going to keep collecting dogs, there has to be a system (of fines for repeat offenders).
