{"id":17593,"date":"2024-07-08T13:58:46","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T17:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=17593"},"modified":"2024-07-08T13:58:47","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T17:58:47","slug":"franklin-becker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/08\/franklin-becker\/","title":{"rendered":"Franklin Becker"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Franklin P. \u201cFrank\u201d Becker, 90, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"599\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/8999722.jpg?resize=400%2C599&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17594\" style=\"width:164px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/8999722.jpg?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/8999722.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He was born on January 26, 1934 in Van Wert County, Ohio to the late Paul G. Becker and the late Emilie M. (Selking) Becker.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank served his country in the United States Army, being honorably discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank was united in marriage to Betty Lou Hoeppner on July 17, 1959 and she survives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church \u2013 Preble. &nbsp;He was also instrumental in the formation of Wyneken Lutheran School, being the first Chairman of the School Board upon the school\u2019s formation. &nbsp;He was also active in the Lutheran Layman\u2019s League (LLL), being elected the First Vice President of the Indiana District. &nbsp;He was a member of the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank was a 1952 graduate of Monmouth High School, after which he graduated from Purdue University with an Associate\u2019s Degree in Engineering. &nbsp;He retired as the Vice President and General Manager of American Wire Rope &amp; Sling in 2009 after starting his career there in 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family. &nbsp;Being raised on a farm, Frank enjoyed the opportunity he had to farm in Root Township over the years. &nbsp;Frank also was fortunate in being able to travel with Betty to many different areas of the country. &nbsp;He loved to play golf\u2026and this past June, he was able to ride for 9 holes, which brought him great joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Survivors include his wife, Betty Becker of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Linette (Steve) Godfrey of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Gregory (Marilyn Bautista) Becker of Menlo Park, California; sister, Arlene (Roger) Fuelling of Decatur, Indiana; grandchildren, Madison Noelle Godfrey, Peyton Alexa Godfrey, Nicholas Paul Becker and Lauren Catherine Becker; and step grandchildren, Willa Bautista, Boston Bautista, and John Marc Bautista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl R. Becker and William J. Becker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, with Pastor Andrew Yeager and Rev. Doctor Daniel Brege officiating.
