{"id":17308,"date":"2024-06-19T09:02:39","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T13:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=17308"},"modified":"2024-06-19T09:02:40","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T13:02:40","slug":"bid-opening-set-for-5-points-roundabout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/19\/bid-opening-set-for-5-points-roundabout\/","title":{"rendered":"Bid opening set for 5 Points roundabout"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wednesday, July 10, is a huge day on Decatur&#8217;s calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s when the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) opens bids for the project which will essentially gut the city&#8217;s Five Points intersection and install a roundabout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If at least one bid is acceptable, the project could begin later this year or next spring. If all bids are over the INDOT engineer&#8217;s estimate for the cost of the work, they could be rejected with the process starting all over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"504\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/A76D250EAA654A27B0806B174D8717FE.jpg?resize=504%2C384&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/A76D250EAA654A27B0806B174D8717FE.jpg?w=504&amp;ssl=1 504w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/A76D250EAA654A27B0806B174D8717FE.jpg?resize=300%2C229&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But that&#8217;s only an \u201cif\u201d at this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council Tuesday night that after the bids are opened, the city will have only a short time to accept or reject them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recommending a special meeting be established, Gilbert said, \u201cWe need to be prepared. We will have only a short time\u201d to decide if the bids are acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilbert explained that he will be informed of the bids within a couple of hours after they are opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City officials will be setting up a special meeting date soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the bids are accepted, Gilbert said, 20% of the cost of the project \u2013 Decatur&#8217;s \u201cmatch\u201d \u2013 will need to be paid within 30 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was originally estimated to cost $3,057.690. The federal government would put up $2,442,352 of that amount while Decatur\u2019s 20% share would amount to $610,338.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those are, however, estimated numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With inflation pushing up prices, the project has been delayed twice. Now, though, costs are coming back down are so the bid date was set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal funds are being used, with INDOT administering the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilbert said it would be up to the winning contractor to decide when to start, so it could be later this year or next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is expected to take 90 to 120 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Wednesday, July 10, is a huge day on Decatur&#8217;s calendar.
