{"id":17293,"date":"2024-06-18T13:26:53","date_gmt":"2024-06-18T17:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=17293"},"modified":"2024-06-18T13:26:55","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T17:26:55","slug":"two-contractors-to-do-s-13th-st-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/18\/two-contractors-to-do-s-13th-st-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Two contractors to do S. 13th\u00a0St. work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two contractors are going to do the work on the City of Decatur&#8217;s Phase 3 of the 13th St. corridor project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 3 includes signalization and handicap improvements at the intersection of S. 13th St. and Winchester St. Extended, commonly called Reidenbach&#8217;s Corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michiana Contracting will revamp the signalization there at a cost of $56,745, while Milestone Contractors will do the sidewalk and ramps work for $109,412.77.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both quotes were recommended for acceptance by city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michiana and Milestone offered quotes for those specific projects, while Brooks Construction gave a combined quote of $262,231 for both projects. The quotes were opened by the city&#8217;s board of works and safety at its June 14 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those three contractors plus Shambaugh &amp; Sons had previously sent in quotes, but they were rejected by the board due to \u201cdiscrepancies considered not acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Major signalization improvements and new sidewalks were completed last year at the Bollman and S. 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;streets as Phase 2 of the overall project. \u201cAnd the result of that has been great,\u201d Gilbert noted at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilbert said at a previous meeting that Phase 4 is likely to get going \u201cin the next several months.\u201d That will involve extending sidewalks from around Ace Hardware south to the intersection with Winchester St. Extended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city&#8217;s redevelopment commission is overseeing the project and providing a key portion of the funding.
