Decatur’s new skate park is beginning to take shape and it could possibly be in use by next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Dan Rickord \u2013 who initiated the idea of a special area for skateboarders to do their thing \u2013 said at the latest meeting of city council that TG Concrete (Taylor Gage) has been pouring concrete at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The skate park \u2013 what little there was of it \u2013 has existed for some time on the west side of the basketball court at North Ward Park, across Fifth St. from the city swimming pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area got a fresh coat of asphalt last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are still some things coming, but we’re hoping that we will have some action out there by mid-July,\u201d Rickord said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new equipment \u2013 quarter pipes, ramps, kickers, a pyramid, etc. \u2013 will be concrete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total cost of the skate park could amount to $35,000, with federal ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The skate park’s hours will the same as in other city parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FISH FOR IT: A new idea unveiled by the mayor sees plans being made to hold a fishing camp at Kekionga Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor said he’s been working with some \u201cavid anglers\u201d to put together plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
