Fifth St. in Decatur, and funds remain in the city&#8217;s 50\/50 sidewalk program, city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its latest meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area of new sidewalks is on the west side of Fifth, just south of Meibers St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/sidewalk-work.jpg?resize=640%2C350&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/sidewalk-work.jpg?w=702&amp;ssl=1 702w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/sidewalk-work.jpg?resize=300%2C164&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are progressing well; we should be out of there in another week or so with some nice sidewalks,\u201d Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the city still has some funds remaining in its 50\/50 program, and anyone interested should contact the public works department, 724-3356.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city annually puts $50,000 into the sidewalk program. Under it, a property owner \u2013 once approved \u2013 pays half the cost of installing a new sidewalk or repairing a current one and the city picks up the other 50%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under a new format initiated last year, a property owner can pay 25% of the cost of installation, with the city covering the remaining 75%. Then the property owner has one year to pay his\/her remaining 25% to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The payment plan, however, covers only residential areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Construction has begun on a sidewalk project on N.
