{"id":16776,"date":"2024-05-28T07:03:42","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T11:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=16776"},"modified":"2024-05-28T07:03:44","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T11:03:44","slug":"square-dancing-added-to-24-concert-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/28\/square-dancing-added-to-24-concert-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Square dancing added to \u201924 concert series"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decatur&#8217;s 2024 Summer Concert Series has a unique, first-time addition: square dancing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new 13-week series on the Madison St. Plaza has been announced by the Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the concerts and lines up sponsors for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each concert will be held on a Thursday, including Crush, a Bon Jovi concert experience, on July 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>July 18 will see Bill Werling and the Breakaway Band, a group which performs throughout this area, bring square dancing to the plaza from 6 to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first show in the series is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, Duke Tomato kicking off the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomato is one of several long-time favorites on the schedule. Hubie Ashcraft will follow Tomato on June 13, with The Bulldogs set for August 8 and the Sweetwater All-Star Band on tap August 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several tribute bands are scheduled, including the return of E5C4P3, which plays the music of Journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others include The Broken Hearts (Tom Petty), Crush (Bon Jovi), and Fleetwood Gold (Fleetwood Mac).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SPONSORS NEEDED: Chamber officials said sponsors are still needed for this year&#8217;s concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several of the concerts are already covered, but more sponsors are being sought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among this year&#8217;s sponsors are Adams Memorial Hospital, Custom Car Care (twice), Tri-Kappa, Mark Bulmahn, Masonic Lodge, ProFed Credit Union, Fleming Properties\/Excavating, and First Bank of Berne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUTH SOUGHT: The Mayor&#8217;s Youth Council is seeking young musicians to perform during this year&#8217;s concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program began last year and was quite successful, with the young people performing before the regular concert or as a midway break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those interested should contact Jamie Gephart at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:jgephart@decaturin.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">jgephart@decaturin.org<\/a>&nbsp;or by calling (260) 724-7171 for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2024 concerts, subject to change:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June 6: Duke Tumatoe with Horns, 6 to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June 13: Hubie Ashcraft, 6 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June 20: E5C4P3, 7 to 9:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June 27: The Broken Hearts, 7 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>July 4: Crush, 7 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>July 11: Hairbanger Ball, 7 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>July 18: Bill Werling Square Dancing, 6 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>July 25: Silver Stallion, 7 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aug. 1: Will be announced July 15<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aug. 8: The Bulldogs, 7 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aug. 15: Fleetwood Gold, 7 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aug. 22: Sweetwater All Star Band, 6 to 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aug. 29: City Lights, 6 to 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Decatur&#8217;s 2024 Summer Concert Series has a unique, first-time addition: square dancing!
