{"id":16433,"date":"2024-05-17T13:52:53","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T17:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=16433"},"modified":"2024-05-17T13:52:54","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T17:52:54","slug":"quotes-received-for-next-phase-of-13th-st-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/17\/quotes-received-for-next-phase-of-13th-st-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Quotes received for next phase of 13th\u00a0St. work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 3 of Decatur&#8217;s improvement plans for the 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;St. corridor are coming into sharper focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its latest meeting that Phase 3 includes signalization and handicap improvements at the intersection of S. 13<sup>th&nbsp;<\/sup>St. and Winchester St. Extended, known to many locals as Reidenbach&#8217;s Corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that, he opened quotes for the work from four companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"506\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/AFCAF4B7DA0645DC8154913403A927D4.jpg?resize=506%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/AFCAF4B7DA0645DC8154913403A927D4.jpg?w=506&amp;ssl=1 506w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/AFCAF4B7DA0645DC8154913403A927D4.jpg?resize=300%2C285&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Jeremy Gilbert opens quotes for S. 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0St. work<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 4, Gilbert said, is likely to get going \u201cin the next several months.\u201d That will involve extending sidewalks from around Ace Hardware south to the intersection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city&#8217;s redevelopment commission is overseeing the project and providing a key portion of the funding. The commission earlier hired Miller Land Surveying of Monroe to determine what would be needed in the way of handicap ramps at the Winchester intersection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phase 2 brought major signalization improvements and new sidewalks to the area of S. 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;and Bollman streets, near Richards restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The quotes for Phase 3 were varied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brooks Construction, for instance, bid $212,231 for the entire project, including pavement markings, while Milestone Contractors bid $109,412.77, but that did not include a signalization upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Shambaugh &amp; Sons and Michiana Construction both bid on just signalization improvement.
