{"id":16031,"date":"2024-05-10T12:55:37","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T16:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=16031"},"modified":"2024-05-10T12:55:38","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T16:55:38","slug":"decatur-fd-adds-veteran-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/10\/decatur-fd-adds-veteran-volunteers\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur FD adds veteran volunteers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Fire Department is adding a pair of veteran firefighters to its ranks of on-call volunteers: Tony Heiser and Christopher Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fire Chief Jeff Sheets brought the names before the city&#8217;s board of works and safety at its latest meeting and received approval for the additions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey are already with other fire departments, so they are mostly ready to go\u201d as they learn Decatur&#8217;s equipment, Sheets said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were three openings on the force of some 25 volunteers, but only Jones and Heiser applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heiser is a 26-year veteran of the Monroe Fire Department, currently serving as lieutenant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An active state certified instructor. he also holds certifications in Auto Extrication, Rope Rescue, Incident Safety Officer, Instructor I&amp;II, Officer I, Fire I&amp;II, NIMS 100,200,300,400,700,800, and EMR, Sheets said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe continues his passion of the fire service and the knowledge he has learned through teaching the Fire\/Rescue Class at South Adams High School,\u201d the local chief noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"322\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/0106E0487FDC4A45ADABC1EB1E52861E.jpg?resize=322%2C440&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16032\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/0106E0487FDC4A45ADABC1EB1E52861E.jpg?w=322&amp;ssl=1 322w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/0106E0487FDC4A45ADABC1EB1E52861E.jpg?resize=220%2C300&amp;ssl=1 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Christopher Jone<\/em>s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Heiser and his wife Amanda, are the parents of two children, Gabrielle and Matthew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tony is a graduate of Adams Central High School and holds a Workplace Specialist Degree from Ball State University; he is currently studying for his Masters of CTE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones is a three-year veteran of the Preble Fire Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He holds certifications in firefighter 1, firefighter 2, EMR, technical rescue awareness, hazmat awareness, hazmat operations, nims 100, nims 200, nims 700, and nims 800.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe continues his passion for the fire service and the knowledge he has learned through various training and seminars,\u201d Sheets said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Bellmont High School graduate, Jones is the son of Jeremy and Jessica Jones and a brother of Madison Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christopher is currently employed at the City of Decatur Public Works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paid-on-call volunteers hold jobs and respond to fire dispatches, for which they are paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s great group;
