{"id":15852,"date":"2024-05-07T13:37:41","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T17:37:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=15852"},"modified":"2024-05-07T13:37:42","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T17:37:42","slug":"craft-market-a-success-one-day-event-planned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/07\/craft-market-a-success-one-day-event-planned\/","title":{"rendered":"Craft market a success; one-day event planned"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a successful 2023-24 Decatur Artisan Market season in Decatur, officials have announced plans for a special stand-alone market to be held during the city&#8217;s annual Festival of the Kekionga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizer and Market Manager Mary Montgomery-Byer said the special one-day event will be held on Saturday, August 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Riverside Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/12C61401061444DBBA8709A33ABD03C8.jpg?resize=512%2C384&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/12C61401061444DBBA8709A33ABD03C8.jpg?w=512&amp;ssl=1 512w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/12C61401061444DBBA8709A33ABD03C8.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2024-25 season, meanwhile, will begin in October and continue through April on the second Saturday of every month, all at Riverside Center. That&#8217;s a total of seven markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8217;23-&#8217;24 market, which also began in October and ran through April, brought in 154 artists, crafters and vendors to sell their&nbsp;one of-a-kind, hand-made goods in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot only do we have our beloved local artists, but we have artists that come in from all over Indiana, Ohio and Michigan,\u201d Montgomery-Byer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year&#8217;s market had everything from hand-carved bird houses, stained glass, pottery, baked goods and candies, original artwork, bath-and-body-care items, candles, jewelry, couture purses and hand bags, published book authors, and so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/B24ABEF12AB54B009950A497C178F4EC.jpg?resize=512%2C384&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15854\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/B24ABEF12AB54B009950A497C178F4EC.jpg?w=512&amp;ssl=1 512w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/B24ABEF12AB54B009950A497C178F4EC.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere really is no need to travel to a larger city to find high quality and unique items when you can get everything you want locally at the Artisan Craft Market,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market has been raising money for a splash pad since 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe 2023-2024 season has raised over $4,000 dollars that is earmarked for a future splash pad,\u201d Montgomery-Byer said. \u201cA big &#8216;thank you&#8217; to the community for coming out to the market, and to vendors and volunteers for all your support.
