MONROE – They weren’t the easiest of playing conditions Monday at the Adams Central tennis complex, but two local rivals put on a quite a show, battling each other and the wind, with three of the five varsity matches going to a third set. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key victory for the eventual winners, Adams Central, was at No. 1 singles, where Anna Leyse and Alexa Brotherton just continue to keep winning. They knocked off Isabelle Ortiz and Marisol Jackson for the first win of the night and setting the tone for the home team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lilyana Suarez used her strong forehand shot to get the No. 2 doubles team for Bellmont back into the match in the second set, but it was Alaina Bertsch and Alayna McCullough who settled back in over a short break off the court, clinching the match for the Jets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The match at No. 1 singles was also intriguing, with Bellmont’s Leila Jin getting the break she needed to take the first set 7-5 against Hilary Tobias, who would have been favored coming into the match. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tobias seemed to gain patience as the night wore on, however, staying within herself and relying on her ground strokes to take the last two sets by a score of 6-1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bright spot for coach Kyle Arnold’s team was the win at No. 3 singles by Emma Fuelling, who won the first and third sets against Macy McClure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves are expected to be rained out Tuesday night at Columbia City and might, therefore, not play again until Thursday at Norwell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jets are scheduled to compete again Friday at Northfield. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
