At its April meeting, the Monroe Town council held discussions with town Superintendent Justin Shaffer, all in an effort to improve their town hall with windows and security measures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most pertinent aspect of the renovations will be the construction of a security window for town Clerk-Treasurer Rachel Tague. Bids for the installment of the window came from Schwartz and Hackenjos, who are both local contractors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also discussions on the addition of a new wall within the town hall to help separate the building, but with concerns over whether it was worth the trouble and in possible violation of firecodes, it was decided to not go ahead with a new wall and instead focus on the window installation. The new security window, which will also include a deadbolt, will run the town around $8,000 depending on which bid and how each contractor will approach the job.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the new security window, the town hall plans to repaint their interior, as the building is now about 10 years old and could use a new coat according to the council. Apart from these updates, the town council also wants to install cameras in the building, and provide access to them to staff members. This will cost approximately $2,100, although it should be noted that the Monroe Fire Department, which is housed in the same building, will provide $800 in funding to help cover the costs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The council ended the discussions by tabling the window bids until more information could be gathered on their rates, and the approval of installing the cameras in a 3-0 vote, which should begin installation in  the next few weeks. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
