Hegerfeld, 99, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Thursday morning, April 4, 2024, at Adams Heritage.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was born on May 30, 1924, in Allen county to the late Herman and Anna (Hockemeyer)&nbsp;Hegerfeld. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bob was united in marriage to Helene (Werling) Hegerfeld on October 4, 1952 at Bethlehem Lutheran in Ossian, Indiana. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/8911417_fbs.jpg?resize=200%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/8911417_fbs.jpg?w=200&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/8911417_fbs.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He served in the United States Army as a Truck Driver during World War II from May 23, 1945 to October 12, 1946, where he was honorably discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a member of St Peter Lutheran Church-Fuelling in Decatur, Indiana and was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church \u2013 Flatrock. &nbsp;Bob was also a member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA) and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur, Indiana.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He graduated from Hoagland High School. He was a former co-owner of City Glass in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 45 years, retiring in 1990. &nbsp;Following his retirement, he shared his expertise with his sons in the operation of their business, Premier Glass in Hoagland, Indiana\u2026a treasured memory that he often spoke of proudly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bob is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Scherer of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Stanley R. (Nan) Hegerfeld of Hoagland, Indiana; son, David E. Hegerfeld of Decatur, Indiana; son, Brent A. (Shari) Hegerfeld of Hoagland, Indiana; sister, Bernice (Hegerfeld) Caston of Ossian, Indiana seven grandchildren, Casey (Shana) Scherer, Kari (Zeke) Schultz, Amy (Cole) Gutshall, Ashley (Bryan) Rumple, Abby Hegerfeld, Cody (Serena) Hegerfeld, Weston Hegerfeld;11 great-grandchildren, Gavin Scherer, Cooper Scherer, Clarke Schultz, Reggie Schultz, Alana Gutshall, Carston Gutshall, Candon Gutshall, Kane Rumple, Aven Rumple, Paxton Hegerfeld, and Hayden Hegerfeld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to his parents and wife Helene, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Luella (Oscar) Lepper, Marcile (Alfred) Baatz and Dorothy (Gerhart) Werling; brother, Arnold \u201cPeanut\u201d Hegerfeld; and brother-in law, Harvey Caston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church \u2013 Fuelling with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard at Concordia Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friends and family will be received from 3-8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Zwick &amp; Jahn Funeral Home \u2013 Decatur and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preferred memorials are to St. Peter Lutheran Church \u2013 Fuelling; Worship Anew; Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA); or St. John Lutheran Church \u2013 Flatrock Endowment Fund.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert H.
