{"id":1437,"date":"2023-04-27T11:23:33","date_gmt":"2023-04-27T15:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=1437"},"modified":"2023-04-27T11:23:36","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T15:23:36","slug":"local-businessman-makes-donation-to-united-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/27\/local-businessman-makes-donation-to-united-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Local businessman makes donation to United Way"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent donation of approximately 7,000 gift boxes was welcomed by officials of United Way of Adams County, which has taken over sponsorship of the Clothe a Kid program in the wake of the March closing of Love INC., adding it to United Way&#8217;s annual Angel Tree effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to United Way Director Jessica Thieme, the boxes were discovered in the former Dean&#8217;s Foods site, located in Industrial Park, which is being prepared for the startup of The Country Butcher, a beef processing plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr. (Riggs) Florence (owner-operator of The Country Butcher) called us about the gift boxes. They were found and given to him so he donated them to us,\u201d Thieme explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the help of some volunteers (from left in photo, Kenny Ketzler, Corey Affolder, and Janelle Young), the gift boxes were brought to United Way and have been stored in an adjacent building. United Way&#8217;s office is located in a building on the site of the onetime Gerber&#8217;s supermarket off E. Monroe St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"628\" height=\"574\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/8786006F570C42378207799D250E6636.jpg?resize=628%2C574\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/8786006F570C42378207799D250E6636.jpg?w=628&amp;ssl=1 628w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/8786006F570C42378207799D250E6636.jpg?resize=300%2C274&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur landlord, Eric Stockman, is allowing us to store them in the building next to us, so we are very thankful to him; that&#8217;s been such a blessing,\u201d Thieme noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the closing of Love INC, its Clothe A Kid program is now being sponsored by United Way, which already operated the Christmas-time Angel Tree, and also will continue to partner with Shop with a Cop and the Salvation Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll applications (for both programs) now will have to come through us.
