Melcher says when she moved to Decatur in 1987, she was pretty sure everyone was related because everyone knew each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDecatur is full of amazing families that have a passion to continue to better the community they live in,\u201d she says. \u201cThe city has so much potential that we are not taking advantage of.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With over 20 years of leadership experience working in manufacturing, Melcher says she understands the importance of servant leadership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am a firm believer that a company\u2019s biggest asset is its employees,\u201d she says. \u201cDuring my tenure in HR, I have taken the lead on many projects, from reduction in turnover to benefit plan restructures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is those experiences, along with her passion to make the city council more transparent to the community, that are driving her campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to be part of the \u2018why\u2019 by actively listening and incorporating the concerns of members of our community when decisions are made that affect this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melcher said she wants to quit talking about growth and instead prove it with results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The political newcomer is involved in several businesses along with her HR positions, including operating Melcher Properties, Indian Lakes Liquor and the Mirage Banquet Hall. The latter has been used as her way of giving back to the community, opening up the hall for various fundraising and GOP events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy extensive work history, many successful business endeavors and absolute love for this community make me a clear choice when looking for a leader to make sound business decisions regarding Decatur. It is my desire to join City Council to create a diverse and welcoming council.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melcher also says she wants to see the youth of the community more involved in decision making. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need to empower our youth to get more involved in community events.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melcher and Sirk will be the choice for local republicans in District One in Tuesday’s election, with the winner set to face democrat Jenny Bowers-Schultz in the fall general election. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

District One in Decatur includes most of downtown and the area south of Monroe Street on the east side of the river. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
