Veteran City Councilman Matt Dyer’s time at the \u201chead of the class\u201d didn’t last long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dyer directed the meetings of the board of works and of city council in City Hall Tuesday night, serving as mayor pro tempore in place of Mayor Dan Rickord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor and his family used the occasion of a college spring break to get away and spend some time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dyer \u2013 starting his fifth term on council \u2013 has stepped in for the mayor before, but these meetings were a bit unusual because they took a mere 55 minutes \u2013 with a 12-minute break \u2013 to conduct both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro tempore, by the way, is a Latin term meaning “for the time being,\u201d signaling that the position was originally conceived as a temporary replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other matters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* The board of works approved a fire contract with Washington Township, which pays $17,727 annually for the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Council approved two ordinances on their third and final readings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Council also approved a resolution transferring money from the MVH (Motor Vehicle Highway) fund to the parks and rec department. Those were not new monies, just a transfer from one budget to another budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Council voted to donate $350 to the upcoming annual Chamber of Commerce dinner, the same support it showed last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
