{"id":13745,"date":"2024-02-26T06:03:38","date_gmt":"2024-02-26T11:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=13745"},"modified":"2024-02-26T06:03:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T11:03:40","slug":"council-hears-of-alleged-dumping-in-city-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/26\/council-hears-of-alleged-dumping-in-city-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Council hears of alleged &#8216;dumping&#8217; in city park"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<br><\/strong><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decatur City Council&#8217;s latest meeting wound up on a discordant note concerning alleged \u201cdumping\u201d in Hanna-Nuttman Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local resident Vince Milholland, in a lengthy, prepared statement, brought his complaint as the final item of business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"546\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/61E47989AF7F469D8BBA89EFBE7044F5.jpg?resize=546%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13746\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/61E47989AF7F469D8BBA89EFBE7044F5.jpg?w=546&amp;ssl=1 546w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/61E47989AF7F469D8BBA89EFBE7044F5.jpg?resize=300%2C264&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 546px) 100vw, 546px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Milholland<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Milholland spoke of \u201cthe continuous dumping of rubbish in the park\u201d and that \u201cit&#8217;s been three years and the problem has only gotten worse. I am 100% certain that if a private individual was doing this, the problem would not be persisting for three plus years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Milholland, Cubmaster of Pack 3070 \u2013 some of the Cubs and their parents attended the meeting \u2013 was particularly upset about the condition of the trail heads in the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnyone who has visited the trails since can attest to their beauty and cleanliness,\u201d he said. \u201cUnfortunately, there are actors who have chosen to make visiting said trails as difficult as possible by piling up debris and refuge in front of the trail heads, once again letting the park fall into ruin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He quoted various city codes dealing with garbage and rubbish in city parks and noted that in the fall of 2021, Cub Scout Park 3070 \u201cdecided to reclaim the old trail system and return the park to its former splendor.
