{"id":13430,"date":"2024-02-18T15:58:11","date_gmt":"2024-02-18T20:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=13430"},"modified":"2024-02-18T15:58:12","modified_gmt":"2024-02-18T20:58:12","slug":"deteriorating-marshall-st-garage-targeted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/18\/deteriorating-marshall-st-garage-targeted\/","title":{"rendered":"Deteriorating Marshall St. garage targeted"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A deteriorating garage in the back yard of a home at 518 Marshall St. is the latest structure in violation of Decatur&#8217;s code of ordinances governing such conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The situation began back in mid-August when owner Brad Colclasure received a notice from the city to abate the the problem, Assistant Building\/Zoning Superintendent Brad Roe told the city&#8217;s board of works and safety at its latest meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roe went over the timeline of the back and forth with Colclasure, noting that at one time the garage was painted \u201cbut was still in pretty poor condition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, a tarpaulin was placed over the roof, but nothing was done with the structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier communication with the owner then stopped in November, according to Roe. \u201cIt&#8217;s been a long time since we&#8217;ve had a phone call (from Colclasure),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the day of the board&#8217;s meeting, the condition of the garage was worse than ever, Roe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/21465CAEC2E14E19883CC8BD2E8986C7.jpg?resize=640%2C336&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/21465CAEC2E14E19883CC8BD2E8986C7.jpg?w=732&amp;ssl=1 732w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/21465CAEC2E14E19883CC8BD2E8986C7.jpg?resize=300%2C157&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Colclasure attended the meeting and told the board, \u201cI have some pretty big stuff in there, things I want to protect.\u201d He&#8217;s been stymied from doing anything due to the winter weather, Colclasure added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He asked for six months to get the items out of the garage and remedy the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"556\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27E8605A41DD40DC832AFAEDCF7E8027.jpg?resize=556%2C384&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27E8605A41DD40DC832AFAEDCF7E8027.jpg?w=556&amp;ssl=1 556w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27E8605A41DD40DC832AFAEDCF7E8027.jpg?resize=300%2C207&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Brad Colclasure (left) and his brother, Randy, at a recent meeting of the Decatur Board of Works and Safety.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt &#8216;s been six months; this began back in August,\u201d Roe interjected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board decided to give Colclasure four months to alleviate the situation and it was agreed to set a deadline of June 6.
