Summers is a Republican candidate for re-election to Adams County Council &#8211; At Large.<br>He is a 1995 graduate of Bellmont high School and graduated from IPFW with a degree in Criminal Justice. Summers then attended Flight School in south Florida receiving his Certified Flight Instructor certification, Commercial Pilot\u2019s License and Multi-Engine Rating. He then worked as a Flight Instructor and Corporate Pilot out of Indianapolis. Currently he is employed by Carter Lumber in Sales and Project Management for their Commercial Division.<br>John is the son of Kermit and Gretchen Summers, of Decatur. John has an extensive list of serving his community. He was sworn into the Adams County Sheriff\u2019s Department as a Reserve Deputy from 2011 \u2013 2018, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant. Starting in 2018 he has served with the Decatur Police Department, appointed by former Chief of Police, Leonard Corral Jr., as Reserve Captain. He holds a FAA certification to be the remote pilot for the Police Department\u2019s drone.<br>He was a Board member of the Decatur Parks &amp; Rec. from 2016 -2020 and served on various committees with the board. In January of 2020, he was appointed as a Board Member of the City of Decatur\u2019s Board of Zoning Appeals as Vice Chairman.<br>John is currently serving as Decatur\u2019s 3rd Precinct, Republican Party, Vice Committeeman Board Member for the Decatur Redevelopment Commission and County Councilman At-Large.<br>With the exception of 4 years in Indianapolis, John is a lifelong resident of Adams County. He lives in Decatur with his wife, Angie Summers of 18 years, and their three children, Katie, Luke and William. They attend Saint Mary\u2019s church in Decatur.<br>\u201cI will continue to use my dedication and experience to further serve the county as a Councilman. I believe that I am responsible, fair and impartial and would continue to be an asset to the Council with our County\u2019s best interest in mind. I will do my best to keep taxes low while looking for opportunities for the County\u2019s growth and prosperity.\u201d<br>Summers is a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Decatur #864, life member of Blue Creek Conservation Club, Member of the NRA, holds his Amateur Radio \u201cTechnician\u201d license and Commercial &amp; Multi-Engine Pilot License. He has been a coach for his children\u2019s sports teams for baseball, softball &amp; soccer. He spends his free time with his wife and children, golfing, hunting and fishing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John P.
