On Saturday, the Bellmont golf team played in the Concordia Invitational and finished 6th<\/sup>\u00a0out of 21 teams. The tournament featured many of the top Fort Wayne teams as well as Indianapolis Cathedral. Highly touted Bishop Dwenger won the event, held at Foster Park, with a score of 298. Leo, Cathedral and Columbia City were close behind with 302, 303 and 304 respectively. Carroll finished fifth with a total of 318 strokes, just three ahead of the Braves. Finishing in seventh was East Noble, the team which defeated Bellmont earlier in the week. Other NE8 teams Huntington North (333), Dekalb (347) and New Haven (460) were among the other teams finishing behind the Braves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont was led by Winston Brown who fired a solid 76, tied for eighth overall out of 105 golfers. His front nine 37 included birdies on the fifth and eighth holes. When asked about his round, he stated, \u201cI missed too many fairways to get good birdie opportunities and was trying to get up and down to save par most of the round.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont\u2019s number two golfer, Owen Minnick went 39 \u2013 40 for a 79 total. He too birdied hole #8 which helped to overcome a pair of double bogies on the day. Bryce Rickord came in with the third best round for the Braves going 40 \u2013 41 for his best scores of the young season. He also had a pair of double bogies in an otherwise consistent round and joined his teammates in making birdie on the par 5 eighth hole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jayden Haines was the fourth scorer for Bellmont with an 85 (43 \u2013 42). Gage Bressler rounded out the Bellmont ledger with a 44 \u2013 42\u00a0 86, just one behind Haines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Ty Razo had good things to say about the effort by the Braves. \u201cWe had very consistent scoring today and avenged the loss to East Noble from earlier in the week. The teams in front of us are all excellent teams so I feel sixth is a pretty good outcome for us. It also gives us a good feel for what we need to do to catch a few of those teams.\u201d The Braves travel to Columbia City to take on the Eagles on Tuesday and will play a tri-match against Adams Central and South Adams on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
