{"id":11604,"date":"2024-01-07T15:17:18","date_gmt":"2024-01-07T20:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=11604"},"modified":"2024-01-07T15:17:18","modified_gmt":"2024-01-07T20:17:18","slug":"sidewalk-improvements-targeted-in-decatur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/07\/sidewalk-improvements-targeted-in-decatur\/","title":{"rendered":"Sidewalk improvements targeted in Decatur"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some major traffic improvements to promote safety were discussed by Decatur&#8217;s board of works and safety at its January 2 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While no major changes are just round the corner, city officials are determined to begin making some improvements, major and minor, in the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome are major projects and some are just signage, but we&#8217;re going to begin working on them over this year,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will start moving forward on some of the smaller ones (projects) at first,\u201d he had noted earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Money, of course, plays a key role on what can be accomplished and how soon. \u201cWe&#8217;re looking at funding mechanisms,\u201d city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One major area of concern is S. 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At its intersection with Bollman St., major signalization improvements were completed last year in partnership with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), including new sidewalks. \u201cAnd the result of that has been great,\u201d Gilbert noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madisoncabinets.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"76\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?resize=640%2C76&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?resize=1024%2C121&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?resize=300%2C35&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?resize=768%2C91&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?resize=1536%2C181&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?w=1938&amp;ssl=1 1938w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Madison-web-ad.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>City officials went to move south to the 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;St. intersection with Winchester St. Extended, a heavily traveled area due to the nearby presence of Walmart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sidewalks are a major want as it is hoped to eventually connect the intersections of Bollman and Winchester with full sidewalks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At present, there are some areas with sidewalks and some without on both sides of S. 13<sup>th<\/sup>.
