{"id":11039,"date":"2023-12-22T10:55:39","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T15:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=11039"},"modified":"2023-12-22T10:55:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T15:55:40","slug":"council-veterans-wind-up-tenures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/12\/22\/council-veterans-wind-up-tenures\/","title":{"rendered":"Council veterans wind up tenures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesday night&#8217;s meetings of Decatur&#8217;s board of works and safety and the city council was not only the final meeting for longtime Clerk-Treasurer Phyllis Whitright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also marked the stopping point for two members of council, Wiley Sirk and Craig Coshow. Both men served two four-year terms, with Coshow also being on the board of works during that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"372\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/D11AF4CE1FE041ACB73BB0ED6ECCB079.jpg?resize=576%2C372&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11040\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/D11AF4CE1FE041ACB73BB0ED6ECCB079.jpg?w=576&amp;ssl=1 576w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/D11AF4CE1FE041ACB73BB0ED6ECCB079.jpg?resize=300%2C194&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Coshow (left in photo) is the city&#8217;s Chamber of Commerce executive director and Sirk (right), a former North Adams superintendent, remains active in educational affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey have always done what&#8217;s best for Decatur,\u201d said Mayor Dan Rickord, noting how both men have worked extremely hard in support of the city. \u201cAnd I personally want to thank you for the work that you&#8217;ve done,\u201d he told them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople want to come to Decatur because of all the work you have done,\u201d Councilman Scott Murray added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councilman Tyler Fullenkamp, also a member of the board of works, spoke about how the efforts of Coshow and Sirk have been highly instrumental in what&#8217;s become a gem of the city: the Madison St. Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sirk said he wanted to \u201cthank everyone for the opportunity and privilege to serve, and it&#8217;s been a privilege to serve. I think we&#8217;re all pointed in the right direction.
