Tuesday night’s meetings of Decatur’s board of works and safety and the city council was not only the final meeting for longtime Clerk-Treasurer Phyllis Whitright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also marked the stopping point for two members of council, Wiley Sirk and Craig Coshow. Both men served two four-year terms, with Coshow also being on the board of works during that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coshow (left in photo) is the city’s Chamber of Commerce executive director and Sirk (right), a former North Adams superintendent, remains active in educational affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey have always done what’s best for Decatur,\u201d said Mayor Dan Rickord, noting how both men have worked extremely hard in support of the city. \u201cAnd I personally want to thank you for the work that you’ve done,\u201d he told them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople want to come to Decatur because of all the work you have done,\u201d Councilman Scott Murray added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councilman Tyler Fullenkamp, also a member of the board of works, spoke about how the efforts of Coshow and Sirk have been highly instrumental in what’s become a gem of the city: the Madison St. Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sirk said he wanted to \u201cthank everyone for the opportunity and privilege to serve, and it’s been a privilege to serve. I want to thank you for allowing me to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He became a bit emotional while thanking his wife, Jeannie, who was in the audience. \u201cI love you,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coshow said he wanted to thank \u201call the volunteers, all who have stepped up for the city \u2026 and the city employees, I’ve gotten close to a lot of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s been a good run. I think we’re all pointed in the right direction. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those attending the meeting was former assistant fire chief Jim (Spank) Hitchcock. Referring to Whitright and the two councilmen, he said: \u201cI just stopped by to see everyone off and say thanks and congratulations to all of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
