Adams Memorial Hospital (AMH) has received the IHOPE grant totaling $114,823.00 which was supported by funds made available from the Centers for Disease and Prevention, Center for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support, under NH75OT000073. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IHOPE grant is a training and educational outreach program focusing on sudden cardiac arrest, choking, and congestive heart failure.\u202f Death rates from heart disease decreased significantly from 2010-2019, but after the onset of COVID-19, we have seen rates increase significantly.\u202f Increases were the most significant among individuals ages 25-44, who are not usually at risk for heart attacks.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Adams Memorial Hospital training program will focus on providing lay people in our community with the skills and supplies to reduce the mortality and morbidity of sudden cardiac arrest victims. According to Jen Helt, BSN, RN\/Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at AMH, Adams County EMS’s average EMS response time is 7 min and 41 seconds.\u202f When sudden cardiac arrest occurs, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) must be started within two minutes of a witnessed arrest to have a positive outcome.\u202f\u202f\u202fThe IHOPE grant funding is to support our community by providing AEDs (Automatic Electronic Defibrillators) to areas in need.  Priority will be given to the most underserved community areas.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
