{"id":10798,"date":"2023-12-14T14:01:48","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T19:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=10798"},"modified":"2023-12-14T14:01:51","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T19:01:51","slug":"decatur-fd-loses-another-veteran-firefighter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/12\/14\/decatur-fd-loses-another-veteran-firefighter\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur FD loses another veteran firefighter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Fire Department&#8217;s volunteer force has lost another veteran firefighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jim Barker (black helmet in photo), a 30-year firefighter, retired after Nov. 30, Fire Chief Jeff Sheets said at the latest meeting of the city&#8217;s board of works and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier in November, Tim Ulman stepped down from the force after 25 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese guys are the heart and soul of the department ,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord said of the volunteers who are known as paid on-call staff. \u201cThey work hard, they put their lives at risk walking into a fire.
