No matter how hard you work, things just don’t go your way.
Grit can only get you so far.
No amount of work would change Bellmont’s fortune, as the Braves dropped a 43-34 decision to Bishop Luers Wednesday.
The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for the Braves (7-2).
\u201cIt happens in basketball,\u201d Bellmont coach Andy Heim said. \u201cThat’s what we talked about (after the game). There are times when we’re not going to shoot the ball well. I can’t imagine what our shooting percentage was. It couldn’t have been very good.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite their shooting woes, Heim appreciated the effort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe girls played hard. The difference was that they were making some shots and we weren’t making any shots.”
“The people that were in\u2014I thought all of them battled well. We got some shots at the rim that we didn’t make, but I would say all of them played well, on defense and in effort.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hailey Cole finished with 14 points, including 3-of-4 shooting for Bellmont. Kamryn Jarvis chipped in with eight points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addie Shank scored 12 points for the Knights [6-2]. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bishop Luers opened the third quarter, igniting a 12-5 run in 5:29 to go up 31-24 late in the third quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont would never recover. Tyree netted six of her nine points in that scoring burst. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves cut the lead to five points at 39-34 with 3:28 to play in the fourth quarter, but Bellmont would not score again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Luers built a 14-11 lead in the first, Bellmont pulled even by outscoring the Knights 8-5 in the second. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heim has Luers on the schedule because they are always a quality opponent that always provides a good test. It’s a chance to get better, he reasoned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe wanted to win, but this game doesn’t mean anything. We won’t see them again. It’s not a conference game. It’s not in the sectional.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
