Lloyd R. Knous, 88, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Swiss Village. He was born on July 27, 1937, in St. Mary’s, OH, the son of the late Clifford A. and Stella L. (Gallimore) Knous. On September 29, 1956, Lloyd married Patricia L. Freewalt and after 61 years she preceded him in death on September 27, 2017.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Lloyd and his wife, Patricia moved from Auglaize County, Ohio to Decatur, in 1960 to work for Yost Companies. In 1981, he went on to work for Primco, where he was a heavy equipment operator. Over his long career in bridge building, he was responsible for the construction of the 6 bridges over the St. Mary’s River in Decatur.
Lloyd is survived by 5 sons, Robert (Pamela) Knous, Neal Knous, Bruce (Laura) Knous, Rodney (Mary “Betsi”) Knous, and Duane (Tammy) Knous all of Decatur; 2 daughters, Barbara (Adlai Hillison) Knous and Fawn (Zeb Smith) Knous both of Decatur; 2 brothers, Paul (Pat) Knous and Charles (Carole) Knous; 2 sisters, Inez Jacobs and Julia Huff; 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Knous; grandson-in-law, Jon R. Trowbridge; 5 brothers, Don, Allen, Wesley, Simon, and James Knous; 3 sisters, Evelyn Sorenson, Louise Long, and Joice Scherer
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Jacob Runyon presiding. Visitation will be held an hour prior to Mass from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
