Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord said at the recent city council meeting that he anticipates that a parks superintendent will be named soon.
The post of parks superintendent is a new one which comes about after the November resignation of Jeremy Gilbert. As operations manager, Gilbert oversaw several departments, including parks and recreation.

Matt Schultz, Gilbert’s assistant for a number of years, replaced him.
But the mayor said he wanted to divide some of the duties Gilbert had. So Schultz was given a new title, that of street and sanitation superintendent, as of January 1, and a new hire will oversee the parks.
Rickord said at the recent council meeting that 20 applications were received for the new post, and that he and Clerk-Treasurer Eran Hackman have been interviewing 14 of the applicants.
“We had a lot of good applicants and I’m excited that we will have someone solely focused on the parks,” he said.
Ryan Lehrman will continue as the manager of the REV Sports Complex, a city post he was hired for in 2022.
