Eugene R. “Gene” Bulmahn, age 83, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026, at Adams Woodcrest.
Gene was born on February 17, 1942, in Decatur, Indiana, to Theodore and Esther (Bultemeier) Bulmahn, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a 1960 graduate of Monmouth High School.

On May 6, 1972, Gene was united in marriage to Helen Hoevel at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Gene honorably served his country in the United States Air Forces with the 122nd Tactical Fighter Wing. Following his military service, he dedicated 37½ years of employment to Dana Corporation, retiring in 2003.
A man of strong faith, Gene was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble, where he faithfully served as a Deacon. In his free time, he was an avid bowler and enjoyed cheering on Indiana University Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also loved playing Euchre and spending time with family and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Bulmahn; and three brothers, Leroy, Willis, and Larry Bulmahn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen Bulmahn of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Carrie Bulmahn of Decatur, Indiana; grandson, Thomas Burk of Decatur, Indiana; granddaughter, Hannah Burk of Bluffton, Indiana; three sisters-in-law, Barb (Vern Stork) Bulmahn of Decatur, Indiana, Barbara Bulmahn of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Colleen Bulmahn of Decatur, Indiana; and one great grandson, Weston Rockwell.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, with Pastor Andrew Yeager and Pastor Daniel Brege officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Preble, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Preferred memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble.
