John G. McClain, age 73, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at his residence.
John was born on January 13, 1952, in Decatur, Indiana, to the late Ortell L. McClain and Eathyl (Tinkham) McClain.

He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1970 and was a welder by trade. Throughout his working career, John was employed at Primco for a number of years, worked as a landscaper for Don Kriegel Landscape, and later retired from Inmar Logistics, where he served as a maintenance specialist.
On July 3, 1998, John was united in marriage to Diane (Miller) at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church.
John loved working outdoors, especially mowing and caring for his yard and property, which he maintained with great pride. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, the New York Yankees, and Indiana University sports. He was also a proud member of the “Corner Café Breakfast Club.” Those who knew John will always remember his great sense of humor. Above all, his greatest love and joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Diane McClain of Decatur, Indiana; his son, Chad (Jennifer) McClain; bonus daughter, Tanya Croswell of Fort Wayne, Indiana; bonus son, Toby (Sarah) Reef of Decatur, Indiana; sisters, Vicki Densmore of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Cheri (Doug) Klopfenstein of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nine granddaughters, Kim, Haylae, Brooklyn, Maddilyn, Kaitlynn, Makayla, Emma, Audrey, and Sophia; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Diane’s family, including her brother, Michael (Anita) Miller of Decatur, Indiana, and her sister, Nola (Scott) Zimmerman of Greencastle, Indiana.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda L. (Sammy) Frasure.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana, with Pastor Zachary Oedewaldt officiating.
Family and friends will be received from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Decatur Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Adult Choir or Zion Lutheran School.
