A Decatur woman was recently honored by the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission for her volunteer work.
Louise Ray, named the Rescue Mission’s Volunteer of the Year, was celebrated at an event held at the Parkview Mirro Event & Conference Center in Fort Wayne on National Philanthropy Day
“We’re celebrating Louise Ray, an outstanding volunteer for The Rescue Mission,” the agency said in a Facebook post. “Her trademark smile and joyful attitude bless so many individuals in our community. Thank you, Louise! Our volunteers are amazing.”

“Basically, Louise is such a cool lady,” an official told WZBD.com. “And the mission is blessed to have her volunteering.”
A WZBD.com story in January of 2024 noted that the Rescue Mission said Louise drives into downtown Fort Wayne once a week to volunteer at the mission.
“To some, this might not seem like a lot, but to the staff and residents, this commitment of time and effort has made an undeniable difference,” the mission pointed out.
At the time, the Decatur woman was assisting with kitchen prep.
“This is what the Lord has led me to do,” Louise said about her decision to dedicate time to the Rescue Mission. “I like serving people.”
