Decatur firefighter Heath Fullenkamp has been promoted to the position of training captain within the department, Fire Chief Jeff Sheets has announced.
Fullenkamp has been serving as interim training captain since the departure of Taylor Gage a few months ago.
Sheets said Fullenkamp was the only member of the department who applied for the position.

Fullenkamp joined the Decatur department as a full-time firefighter in 2016 after serving with the Preble volunteer department from 2009-2017.
He is a 2006 graduate of Bellmont High School and in 2009 received his Associate Degree in fire science from Ivy Tech.
Heath and his wife, Katie, are the parents of two sons: Bentley, 8, and Brody, 6.
TRIMMING: Chief Sheets said at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that the department was down to six applicants seeking two full-time positions.
The field would soon be cut to four, then some area fire chiefs would look at qualifications and talk with the four.
Three department full-timers resigned in August, cutting the number of regulars by one-third, from nine to six.
Preston Bemis was added to the ranks Sept. 1.
At full force, the Decatur FD has nine career firefighters, Deputy Chief Chad Baumann, and Chief Sheets.
