It’s been more than a week since the Five Points Roundabout opened in Decatur and everything seems to be going quite well.
With one week in, the roundabout has yet to see its first traffic accident reported to city police, according to the department.
First-responder services and school transportation officials are pleased with the setup.
EMS officials told Susan Sefton, community outreach director for the Adams Health Network (AHN), that they are confident the roundabout will pose no problems.

A statement from Sefton, EMS Direct Kris Burkhart and senior leadership officials Chris Butler and Jen Helt said:
“Adams County EMS and Adams Health Network are in full support of the new roundabout. We do not believe it poses a danger, and our crews are trained and fully prepared to navigate it safely during emergency responses.
“The roundabout is designed to improve overall traffic flow and safety for the community, and we are confident it will not hinder our ability to provide timely emergency care.”
Fire Chief Jeff Sheets has seen no issues with the traffic circle.
“At this time, we have not had any problems with the roundabout,” he said.
North Adams Schools officials also are pleased with the change at Five Points.
“The roundabout has been great for us,” said Scott Miller, director of operations.
He noted that there have been no issues with school busses.
In fact, Miller said, “It’s much easier for busses to move around that intersection. Busses have the right of way while in the roundabout.
“It’s safer, also.”
The roundabout was officially opened Sept. 25.
