The Decatur Police Department saw a major decrease in calls for service in June, but an increase in July.
June’s calls, according to the department, totaled 1,134, 512 fewer than in May.
July’s calls amounted to 1,293, a jump of 159 over the previous month.

In the first seven months of the year (through July), the department has handled 8,215 calls for service, an average of 1,174 per month.
The calls include a mix of emergency and non-emergency responses, including, but not limited to, traffic stops, traffic-related criminal offenses, vehicle accidents, and a variety of other traffic related concerns, the report said.
The number also includes property crimes, crimes against a person(s), and long-term investigations as well as non-criminal issues such as, VIN (vehicle inspection number) checks, civil disputes, animal complaints, vehicle unlocks, and neighbor complaints.
