Gladys A. Thomas (Jo), 85, of Decatur passed away August 27th 2025 in the comfort of her home.
Jo was born October 26th 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her lifelong banking career began at Fort Wayne National Bank as a teller where Jo made her way to being a Key Holder of safe deposit boxes. From there she found herself at Home Loan Bank in Decatur starting in 1997. Jo served many roles at Home Loan Bank; loan officer and Vice President being a few. She did not stop there, Jo went on to open First Bank of Berne on Monroe Street in Decatur, where she later retired from.

In addition to all her accomplishments, she also had five beautiful children who gifted her ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. After Retirement Jo could be found spending time with her family or watching game shows and westerns with her beloved dog on her lap. Jo liked to laugh and reminisce and made a positive impact on everyone around her.
Survived by her children Toni Miller (David), Susan Mitchell, John Thomas (Emily) and Jean Thomas. Grandchildren Nicholas Miller (Megan), Rachel Wyant (Zachary), Kimberly Markiewicz (Chris), Austin Bending (Cristina), Mason Bending, Victoria Durand (James), Jordan Thomas, Andrew Pierce (Wren), Annamarie Pierce (Myikell) and Douglas Duncan.
She is preceded in death by Marcella McCollumn (Mother), Richard Weingart (Brother) and Marcy Duncan (Daughter).
A Memorial Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. followed by a brief time of sharing at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to ACCF Angel Cancer Fund.
