Two major projects are winding down in Decatur, including the much-discussed Five Points roundabout.
The roundabout work “is coming right along,” city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its meeting Tuesday night.

“It’s definitely taking shape down there, for sure,” Mayor Dan Rickord added.

It now appears that the project could be finished by around mid-September.
The other major project – now in its 18th week – should be wrapped up even sooner – “We hope to get it done in the near future,” Gilbert said.

That project, funded by a grant of $1,456,125 from the state’s Community Crossings fund, with a 25% match provided by the city, is providing nearly two miles of new sidewalks and approximately two miles of repaved streets.

The sidewalk work and paving – in the north and northwest sections of the city – is competed and the contractor, DC Construction of Pendleton, is now doing pavement markings, Gilbert said.
