Decatur officials are looking toward the establishment of a downtown riverfront park and have scheduled a public meeting to receive input from residents.

The park would be located in the area of a city-owned parking lot on the west side of the St. Marys River, between Monroe and Jackson streets.

The meeting will be held next Wednesday at Riverside Center, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
“See concept renderings and options, share your favorites, and help shape a park everyone will love!” says a city announcement on Facebook.

A steering committee has been working on plans for some time and its concepts will be made public at the meeting.
“We are looking forward to next Wednesday to get public input,” Mayor Dan Rickord said at recent city council meeting.

The mayor explained that a proposed park could happen next year or later, but for now a proposal is needed.
“Grants are out there, but you have to have a plan,” he added.
