After five weeks of hard and pop rock, the Decatur Chamber’s Summer Concert Series turns the page this Thursday, bringing to the Madison St. Plaza stage the sounds of outlaw country music from four of that genre’s greatest stars.

The Silver Stallion, a tribute to the Highwaymen, will perform from 7 to 9.

The Highwaymen were an American country music supergroup, comprised of four of country music’s biggest artists, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson. It is said that the Highwaymen pioneered the outlaw country music movement.

This week’s concert will be led at 6:45 by 12-year-old Savannah Zimmerman, a student at St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur. “This is her third year performing with us, and her passion for music just keeps growing,” an announcement said.
No admission is charged. Food will be available, along with adult beverages by The Oasis Pub.
The Silver Stallion band, based in Kingsport, Tennessee, is comprised of Jeff Takersley as Johnny Cash, Frank Perry as Waylon Jennings, Larry Walsh as Willie Nelson, and Alan Tedders – a veteran of 40-plus years on stage – portrays Kris Kristofferson.

“Silver Stallion’s tribute to The Highwaymen will take you back in time like no other tribute,” the band’s website says. “With their canny resemblance of each member and their spot-on singing that made this super group a country music legend; you’ll hear all their biggest hits and more.”
Nelson, who turned 92 last April 29, is only surviving member of The Highwaymen. Jennings died in February of 2002 and Cash in September of 2003, while Kristofferson passed in September of last year.
