The Madison Street Plaza in Decatur was rocking again Thursday night, this time with the rockin’ hits of the Foo Fighters, via Back & Forth Foo Fighters, a tribute band.

It was the seventh of 13 Thursday night concerts in the Decatur Chamber’s seventh annual Summer Concert Series.
The began with a poignant, quiet tribute to the late Dale Manis, a huge fan of the Foo Fighters who passed away last January at the age of 55.
Manis was a popular figure in the community, Chamber Executive Director Craig Coshow told concert-goers, then held a moment of silence for the longtime educator.

The Back & Forth band – the name comes a documentary film about the Foo Fighters – performed top Foo hits like “Best of You”, “Walk”, and “White Limo”, plus some of the hits of Joe Walsh, KISS, and others.
The five-man tribute band, based in northeast Ohio and formed in 2019, was making its first appearance in Decatur. Next Friday and Saturday it will be performing in Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
By the way, the name “Foo Fighters” comes from a World War II term.

In the context of World War II, a “Foo Fighter” was a term used by Allied pilots to describe unidentified aerial phenomena, often glowing or luminous objects, that were seen during combat missions. These objects were typically described as being fast-moving, maneuverable, and sometimes appearing in formations.
The term was adopted as the band’s name by founder Dave Grohl.
The Foo Fighters are in the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
