Adams County schools finished ahead of the state average in most categories according to new information released by the Indiana Department of Education this week.
In total, combining all students tested in third through eighth grade, Adams Central led the way and was the only local district above the state average.

Local parochial schools had similar scores overall. Wyneken Memorial Lutheran had a 38.1% proficiency rate, while St. Peter-Immanuel Lutheran’s score was 41.0%. St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur was at 41.1%.

Grade 3 ELA Data
40.3% of students in the third grade in Indiana reached ELA proficiency. South Adams led the way locally with a 49%, while Adams Central was second with a 40.4%. North Adams had 37 of their 100 third graders reach proficiency. East Allen’s percentage was at 39.1%

Grade 4 Data
41.4% of fourth graders in Indiana were listed as proficient in English-Language Arts.

Grade 5 Data
The percentage of fifth-grade students reaching proficiency was 40.8% in Indiana in 2024-25.

Grade 6 Data
Sixth Graders in Indiana finished with a 40.5% proficiency percentage.

Grade 7 Data
The class with the lowest overall score in Indiana was the seventh grade with a 37.9% proficiency rating.

Grade 8 Data
Eighth graders across the Hoosier state had the highest rating in ELA scores with a 42.7% proficiency rating.
