The Decatur Police Department has announced that it has partnered with the National Child Safety Council (NCSC) to help with safety program material for children and seniors.
Over the next few weeks, the department said, local businesses will be receiving a mailer from the NCSC, on behalf of the department, seeking donations.

The letter will bear the signature of Chief Kevin Gerber, along with specific details of the program and instructions on how to donate.
The donations will be used to purchase educational material through this organization, the department said in the announcement.
“We look forward to the opportunities this will bring for our community,” the department said.
The National Safety Council says it has been a law enforcement partner since 1955.
Based in Michigan Center, Michigan, the council is a not-for-profit, charitable, federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the safety of children.
