In a surprising turn of events late Saturday night, a 21-year-old man wanted for attempted murder in central Indiana unexpectedly turned himself in at the Decatur Police Department.
Around 10 p.m. on June 21, a man—later identified as Giovanny Javier De Jesus De Jesus of Anderson, Indiana—approached the police department on foot. He briefly entered the building’s lobby before quickly exiting. Officer Joseph Collier made contact with the man outside and, using a translation app, learned the individual did not speak English fluently. The man indicated he wanted to be arrested, stating he had done “something very bad.”
De Jesus offered no further information but insisted that other officers “would know what he did.” Officers Logan Lemaster and Dennis Bosler joined the investigation, working to uncover the man’s identity and any possible connection to Decatur.

Through coordinated efforts with agencies in central Indiana, Decatur officers soon discovered that De Jesus was the prime suspect in a shooting that had occurred earlier that day in Fishers. He was accused of shooting a woman multiple times in the back while she held an infant, then fleeing the scene.
De Jesus was taken into custody at the Adams County Detention Center, where he was later turned over to Fishers police.
Decatur officers also utilized the city’s new Flock camera system to locate the suspect’s vehicle, which had entered the city without taking a major highway. Officers found the vehicle parked at a local business on North 13th Street. It was secured as evidence for Fishers PD.
At this time, authorities remain unsure why De Jesus chose Decatur to surrender, and he has refused to provide additional information. Police believe the choice may have been random.
According to Fishers Police, De Jesus has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of intimidation with a deadly weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm and one count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
