Donald E. Swygart Sr., 87, of Decatur, IN passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at his residence. Donald was born on January 6, 1938, in Decatur to the late Henry (Hank) and Mildred (Hindenlang) Swygart. On February 14, 1959, Donald married Carol F. Koenig.

Don drove truck for many years before going to work at General Electric. After G.E. left Decatur, he went back to driving truck. He retired in 2003 to do what he loved, helping Carol babysit their grandson, Tyler.
Don loved setting up at Trade Days in Willshire with his son-in-law and daughter. On Tuesday afternoon and evening, he could be found at the Monroe Livestock Auction with Dave watching the sale. On Fridays you could find him out eating supper with his wife Carol and grandson Tyler.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol Swygart of Decatur; son Don Swygart Jr. of Poe; daughter, Cari (Todd) Shaffer of Decatur; and his pride and joy grandson, Tyler Shaffer of Decatur; 3 sisters, Kate Clack, Lulubelle McIntosh, and Mary Ann Jones all of Blackstock, SC; sister-in-law, Janie Swygart and special niece Barbara Melton of Chester SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan Clark and brother Jerry Swygart.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Casual attire is requested by the family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 also at the funeral home with calling 1 hour prior to service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Pastor John McCullough will be officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Decatur Police Dept. or Decatur Volunteer Fire Dept.
